Maharashtra government will soon introduce Unique Health IDs for patients, enabling hospitals to access medical histories instantly. This initiative aims to digitalize healthcare and enhance treatment efficiency.
Under this initiative, every patient will receive a Unique Health ID storing essential details like name, address, past illnesses, and treatment history. Hospitals across Maharashtra can access this data, reducing the need for physical medical records.
The system will also be linked to government healthcare schemes, helping authorities determine a patient’s eligibility for financial aid. Hospitals will coordinate with government agencies, eliminating the need for patients to visit multiple offices for benefits.
Hospitals to Register Patients with Unique IDs
Hospitals will be responsible for registering patients and generating Unique Health IDs by collecting identification details. PAN card information will also be recorded to assess financial status and determine eligibility for government aid.
Ramashwar Naik, head of the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund, emphasized that financial constraints should not hinder healthcare access. He stated, “Our goal is to ensure that patients receive timely medical treatment without bureaucratic delays. Instead of patients running to the government for help, hospitals will now coordinate with authorities to secure financial aid and provide necessary treatment at minimal cost.”
Decentralisation of the CM Medical Assistance Fund
In a major reform, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has decided to decentralize the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund to make financial aid more accessible. Instead of traveling to Mumbai’s Mantralaya, economically weaker patients can now apply for assistance at special medical units in district collector offices.
An online system is being developed to provide information on nearby hospitals, available government health schemes, and eligibility criteria, enabling patients and their families to make informed treatment decisions with ease.
The government is launching a toll-free helpline to assist patients by providing details on affordable treatment at government and private hospitals. It will also offer information on hospitals covered under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and other central health schemes.
With over 4,000 government, private, and charitable hospitals participating, the Maharashtra government aims to enhance healthcare accessibility, transparency, and efficiency for all citizens.
