A Reddit user sparked a discussion on the r/developersIndia forum after sharing that his company fired him during his notice period for taking leave.
In a post titled “Company terminated me after I took a leave in my notice period,” the user mentioned resigning just two months after joining due to a “toxic” work environment. He also claimed that his employer was forcing him to work overtime.
However, during his notice period, he took a few days off and was allegedly informed by HR that the company had decided to terminate him. He was also told that he would not receive a relieving letter or experience certificate.
In his post, the user expressed concern that without an experience letter, his job search would be affected, especially since his current salary was hiked by 200% from his previous job.
“Basically, I was on notice period in this company I joined 2 months ago (put papers because of the toxic environment – making me do unpaid overwork) and after I took a couple of leaves during the notice period, the HR called to tell me that the company has decided to terminate me and that they will not be providing any relieving letter etc. Is there anything I can do to get that experience letter as they had provided me a hike on my previous salary by 200 percent and without this my current CTC would go down significantly and hurt me while job hunting. What actions can I take? Should I take?” the Reddit user said.
Another user pointed out that there are always two sides to a story and avoided taking sides, stating, “20 years in this industry and I have come to realise that there are always two sides to every story. So I won’t judge OP or the company based on what is written in the original post.”*
The Reddit post has sparked a wider discussion on workplace ethics and employee rights in the corporate world.
