Nagpur police busted an illegal betting operation in a high-end residential area of Shivajinagar during the Afghanistan vs Australia Champions Trophy match. The Crime Branch’s Unit 2 conducted the raid at Himsagar Apartment under Ambazari police station limits on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended three individuals engaged in online betting—Pramod Bhaurao Dongre (51) from Bajrang Nagar, Sandeep Narayan Devgade (35) from Wani, Yavatmal, and Amjad Khan Sheikh Ramzan (40) from Itwari, Shantinagar.
Investigations revealed that the accused were operating under the instructions of a Yavatmal-based bookie, identified as Jaiswal. Police seized electronic devices worth ₹2.17 lakh, including two laptops, a smart TV, a multimedia line, and eight mobile phones.
A case has been registered at Ambazari police station. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh, with officers Gajanan Chambhare, Rajesh Tiwari, and their team playing key roles in the crackdown.
