A jeweler and his son were brutally attacked by a group of criminals near Chinteshwar Temple under Lakadganj police station limits on Monday night. The assailants also vandalized the shop and assaulted a police personnel who attempted to intervene. Shockingly, despite being detained, the accused were released within hours and later returned to issue death threats.
Padmakar Parate (48), owner of Parate Jewelers, objected when a group of men were drinking and shouting abuses outside his shop on Monday night. Initially, they left, but soon returned armed with weapons, ransacked the shop, and assaulted him. His 71-year-old father, who rushed to his aid, was also beaten. A passing police personnel tried to intervene but was attacked, and his mobile phone was smashed.
Despite public outrage, the accused were released. Shortly after, they returned in an intoxicated state, threatening to kill Parate.
The incident has sparked anger in the community, with locals demanding strict action against the accused to prevent further violence.
