Justice Bhushan Gavai of the Supreme Court will be sworn in as the Chief Justice of India on May 14, a day after he takes over as the CJI on May 13. He will be administered oath by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
A native of Amravati and a son of former Governor and RPI leader R S Gavai and Kamlatai Gavai, Bhushan Gavai took school education in Amravati and a degree in law from Mumbai. For some time he practised law in Mumbai and Amravati. In Nagpur, he worked under the guidance of retired judge Adv Raja S Bhonsale around 1990. He then became a judge at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court and was later elevated to the Supreme Court.
Amravati is gearing up to felicitate Justice Gavai after he takes over as the CJI. Justice Bhushan Gavai will work as the 54th Chief Justice of India, whose term will end on November 23, 2025.
Amravati is getting the honour of producing two people holding the top positions in the country, Pratibhatai Patil who became the President being the other one.
