The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Fire Department had declared Meditrina Hospital unsafe and ordered its immediate evacuation due to alleged non-compliance with fire safety norms for the past 13 years. However, the hospital challenged this directive in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court.
Hearing the petition, a division bench comprising Justice Nitin Suryawanshi and Justice Praveen Patil issued a notice to NMC, directing it to submit a response by March 17. Until then, the court has granted an interim stay on the evacuation order.
The NMC Fire Department had taken action citing the hospital’s failure to implement fire safety measures, posing a potential risk to patients and staff. Advocate Anoop Gilda represented Meditrina Hospital in the case.
With the High Court’s intervention, the matter now awaits further legal proceedings to determine the hospital’s compliance with safety regulations.
