The state government has proposed former Nagpur Information Commissioner Rahul Pande (51) for the role of Chief Information Commissioner under the Right to Information Act.
Rahul Pande, a former journalist, was appointed as Nagpur’s Information Commissioner by the Devendra Fadnavis-led government. He served in this role from October 2021 to October 2024 and also handled additional responsibilities for Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Amravati divisions. If appointed as Chief Information Commissioner, Pande will serve a three-year term.
The government has also shortlisted three candidates for the position of Information Commissioner. Among them is Gajanan Nimdev, the editor of Nagpur Tarun Bharat.
The four names were approved during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. The recommendations have now been sent to Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan for final approval, after which formal announcements will be made.
Previously, former chief secretaries Ratnakar Gaikwad and Sumit Mullick served as chief information commissioners. The position has remained vacant since Mullick’s retirement.
