Amid growing frustration over the lack of available appointments for High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installation, some relief may come through the home delivery option.
Many vehicle owners have reported that while direct appointments remain unavailable, selecting the home delivery service during the booking process has proven successful. This alternative allows users to bypass the fitment center bottleneck, ensuring timely installation without the hassle of securing an appointment.
Meanwhile, officials are investigating complaints regarding the inefficiency of certain fitment centers, which have contributed to the backlog.
Deadline Extended, But Booking Issues Persist
As per the Transport Department’s directive, all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, must have HSRP installed. The original March 31 deadline has been extended to June 30, but many users find it impossible to book appointments, as the next available date shows July 27 with no time slots open for selection.
Shortage of Fitment Centers to Blame
A major reason for the delays is the shortage of fitment centers. In the MH-31 registration zone, 12,59,937 old vehicles are registered, but only 31 fitment centers are operational. Similarly, in the MH-49 zone, there are 4,11,265 vehicles but only 29 centers available for installation.
With demand exceeding capacity, vehicle owners continue to struggle to comply with the mandate. The home delivery option now appears to be the most viable solution, offering a smoother process while authorities work on resolving the fitment center crisis.
