Nagpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ warning for thunderstorms with lightning across several districts of Vidarbha over the next 3–4 days. The region is also expected to witness gusty winds of 40-50 kmph and hailstorms in some areas over the next two days.
Thunderstorms, Hail Likely in Several Districts
According to the IMD, Amravati, Akola, Bhandara, and Wardha are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning on April 1, while all districts of Vidarbha will witness similar weather conditions on April 2 and 3. Additionally, Bhandara and Gondia are likely to receive hailstorms on April 3.
A cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and a north-south trough extending across Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, and Goa are contributing to the unstable weather. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-60 kmph) are expected in these regions between March 31 and April 4.
Weather Advisory Issued
Residents have been advised to stay alert and seek shelter during thunderstorms to protect themselves from lightning. Authorities have also urged people to follow traffic advisories in urban areas to avoid weather-related disruptions.
Rising Temperatures Amid Cloudy Conditions
Despite the cloudy weather, Brahmapuri recorded the highest maximum temperature in Central India on Monday at 42.2°C, followed by Chandrapur (42.0°C). Other high temperatures in the region included: Akola: 41.4°C, Gadchiroli: 41.0°C, Nagpur: 39.9°C (a drop of 1.3°C from the previous day), Amravati, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal also crossed the 40°C mark.
