Amravati’s Belora Airport, which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on April 16, has not been granted permission for night landing. Flight services between Amravati and Mumbai will be started by the Alliance Airlines on the day. The Air Calibration of Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) has been successfully conducted. However, the arrangements for night landing have not been completed as yet.
The lighting arrangements on the airstrip, as per the Maharashtra Airports Development Authority, will have to be made. The DVOR equipment will have to be installed with the permission of the Director General of Civil Aviation. Night landing will be permitted only after tests for safe night landing is conducted by the authorities.
Out of the 101 airports in India, 35 had no facility for night landing. Most of them were small airports. The Airport Authority is taking an interest following demand by aviation companies to start night services.
The facility for night landing at the Belora Airport is expected to be started by June.
