To enhance public safety in Nagpur, CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the city. Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister of Nagpur district, Mr. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has directed authorities to repair all non-functional and damaged CCTV units and ensure that all city roads, lanes, and areas come under complete surveillance.
On Friday, April 11, Bawankule held a review meeting at the District Planning Hall to discuss various issues related to Nagpur city and district. Present at the meeting were Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Vinod Jadhav, along with officials from the police department, municipal corporation, and district administration.
During the meeting, Bawankule reviewed the current status of the CCTV network in the city. Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari informed that 3,600 CCTV cameras have been installed in Nagpur for safety purposes, though some are currently non-functional due to technical issues. Emphasizing that citizen safety is a government priority, the minister noted that surveillance through CCTV plays a major role in maintaining security. He assured that there would be no shortage of funds to upgrade the current system and extend camera coverage across the city.
Bawankule instructed that CCTV cameras be installed on private premises if required and urged public awareness efforts to support the initiative. He emphasized selecting locations to ensure maximum area coverage. A letter regarding non-functional cameras will be sent to the state’s IT Minister, and a meeting with MahaIT officials will be arranged soon.
Bawankule also proposed exploring the integration of home CCTV systems with police networks to strengthen security. Dr. Sheel Ghule, GM of E-Governance at Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd., gave a detailed presentation during the meeting.
