Nagpur: A 52-year-old professor from a Raipur-based medical college has been apprehended by Hudkeshwar police for allegedly murdering his wife, Dr Archana Anil Rahule (50), who served as an assistant professor at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur. The incident occurred at their residence in Ladekar Layout, Hudkeshwar, and came to light on Saturday evening.
According to police, Dr Anil Rahule, who frequently commuted between Raipur and Nagpur, returned home and found his wife’s decomposed body lying in a pool of dried blood. A foul smell had alerted him upon entering the house, after which he informed neighbors, who called the police.
Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar led the initial probe, with senior officials including Joint Commissioner of Police Nisar Tamboli, DCP Zone 4 Rashmita Rav, ACP (Crime) Abhijeet Patil, and ACP Narendra Hivare also visiting the scene. The body was sent for postmortem to GMCH after the panchnama was conducted.
Initially, police explored the possibility of robbery. However, during the investigation, the victim’s sister, Dr Neema Bhagwan Sonare, informed authorities that the couple had been facing marital discord. She revealed that Anil had been suspicious of Archana’s fidelity for the past six months, leading to frequent arguments.
Upon detailed questioning, Anil confessed to killing his wife with an iron rod following a heated argument a few days prior. Based on his confession and other evidence, police have booked him for murder under relevant sections of the IPC and placed him under arrest.
Hudkeshwar police continue to investigate further to establish the complete sequence of events.
