Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari sparked a wave of online reactions on Monday after proposing a law to replace standard vehicle horns with sounds inspired by Indian musical instruments.
Speaking at an event, Gadkari said, “I am planning to make a law that the horns of all vehicles should be in Indian musical instruments so that it is pleasant to hear — flute, tabla, violin, harmonium.” The idea, he explained, is part of a broader initiative to reduce noise pollution on Indian roads.
While the proposal received praise for its creative approach to environmental concerns, it also became the subject of light-hearted humor across social media. Users on platform X (formerly Twitter) quickly turned the minister’s statement into a trending topic, sharing a flurry of memes and jokes imagining musical traffic jams filled with tabla beats and violin tunes.
