A family from Nagpur had a harrowing experience during the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, with one of them narrowly escaping with her life and suffering a fractured leg in the chaos.
Simran Roopchandani, a resident of Jaripatka, Nagpur, was visiting the picturesque Baisaran Valley, often referred to as “Mini Switzerland,” with her husband and son when terrorists opened fire on tourists on Tuesday afternoon. Recounting the terrifying ordeal, Simran said they were about to leave the valley when sudden gunshots shattered the peaceful atmosphere.
“We had come to experience the beauty of nature, but in seconds, the scene turned into a nightmare. The sound of gunfire and screams echoed all around. I didn’t know what to do—my only instinct was to run towards the hills with my family,” she said.
As panic gripped the valley, hundreds of tourists ran for cover. In the rush, Simran slipped while climbing the hill and fractured her leg. Her husband and son managed to pull her to safety and helped her reach a secure location away from the firing.
“If we had been two minutes late in leaving, I don’t know what could have happened,” she said, still shaken by the incident.
The Roopchandani family was on a tour of Jammu and Kashmir when the tragedy struck. The attack at Baisaran left multiple tourists dead and several injured, triggering nationwide condemnation and calls for heightened security in the region.
The injured have been receiving treatment, and authorities are continuing to investigate the attack, which has once again raised questions about the safety of tourists in Kashmir’s high-profile destinations.
