Pune: In a major boost to cricket development in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the launch of its own cricket academy, inspired by the model of the National Cricket Academy (now Centre of Excellence) in Bengaluru.
MCA President Rohit Pawar made the announcement during the Maha Vandan MCA Awards 2025 ceremony, revealing that the facility will be named the Ajay Shirke Maharashtra Cricket Academy, in honour of former MCA chief Ajay Shirke, who also held key administrative roles in the BCCI.
Alongside the central academy, the association plans to establish multiple regional centres to broaden talent scouting and training across the state.
The awards event also saw veteran cricketers being felicitated. Former India women’s team captain Shubhangi Kulkarni received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while ex-India international Kedar Jadhav, who retired in June 2024, was honoured with the Legendary Cricketer Award for his outstanding service to Maharashtra and Indian cricket.
