The rising heat in Nagpur has increased the risk of sunstroke, prompting the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Health Department to make full preparations. Cold wards have been set up in ten government hospitals, including municipal ones. As per the Health Department, one heat stroke patient was recently admitted to a private hospital and has since recovered and been discharged.
Both government and private hospitals have been instructed to stay alert for heat-related illnesses and flu cases.
According to a media report, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar said that the heat stroke patient admitted to a private hospital has not fully recovered yet. He added that if any private hospital lacks a cold ward, they can contact the NMC for support. Private hospitals are also required to regularly submit reports on patients suffering from heat-related illnesses. Hospitals failing to do so are served a notice.
It is known that an increase in body temperature due to heat is called hyperthermia. Common symptoms of heat-related flu include nausea, vomiting, fever, dry skin, fatigue, dizziness, headache, irritability, dry or swollen tongue, excessive sweating, tingling in the feet, and high blood pressure.
Cold wards have been established at the following hospitals: GMCH, Mayo Hospital, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Government Hospital, Central Railway Hospital, ESIS Hospital, Somwaripeth, Daga Hospital, NMC Indira Gandhi Hospital, Pachpaoli Women’s Hospital, and Isolation Hospital. In addition, 108 Ambulance Services and Municipal Ambulances are on standby to transport patients.
