In a late-night anti-narcotics operation, Tehsil Police apprehended a 34-year-old man in possession of mephedrone (MD) powder worth approximately Rs 72,600 near Timki, Bhankheda in Nagpur.
The accused, identified as Shakeel Ahmed Abdul Khalid, a resident of Takiya Diwanshah near Lal School, was caught during a patrolling round around 2:15 AM on May 1. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team reached the vicinity of Gupta Atta Chakki, where Shakeel was seen standing next to a Suzuki Burgman scooter. On noticing the police, he attempted to flee but was quickly detained.
A personal search of the accused led to the recovery of 7.26 grams of MD powder concealed in a zip-lock packet in the right pocket of his trousers. Apart from the drugs, officials also seized his mobile phone and the numberless Burgman two-wheeler. The total value of the seized materials is estimated at Rs 1.52 lakh.
Shakeel Ahmed was allegedly in possession of the drugs with the intention to sell them for personal financial gain. He has been booked under Sections 8(c) and 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case is being probed further by Tehsil Police.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Additional CP (Crime) Sanjay Patil, DCP (Zone 3) Mahek Swami, and ACP (Kotwali Division) Anita More. The patrolling and arrest team included PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, PSI Rasul Shaikh, and police staff Rajesh Thakur, Ramkailas Yadav, Yunus Khan, and Firoz Khan.
