An unidentified elderly man, estimated to be around 70 years old, was found unconscious near Itwari Railway Station on the night of April 30, Tuesday, and was later declared dead at Mayo Hospital. With Nagpur’s temperature exceeding 42 degrees Celsius, police suspect that sunstroke may have been the cause of death.
The man was discovered lying in an unconscious state around 10:15 PM near Bharti Akhada, behind the railway quarters within Shantinagar Police Station limits. Upon being informed, police rushed the individual to Mayo Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Given the prevailing intense heatwave across Nagpur, authorities are considering sunstroke as a likely reason behind the death, particularly since vulnerable sections like the elderly are at higher risk.
An accidental death report has been registered at Shantinagar Police Station based on the preliminary medical findings.
