A major fire broke out near the Shankh Dwar of the Jyotirlinga Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple complex in Ujjain, triggering panic among devotees and temple staff on Sunday.
According to a media report, the fire originated in an office due to a short circuit in battery systems. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, visible from a considerable distance, alarming people in the vicinity.
Multiple fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Firefighters launched a swift operation to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading further into the temple premises.
Temple authorities confirmed that the fire did not reach the sanctum or the main temple structure, and no casualties have been reported so far. Devotees were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause and assess the damage.
