Residents in the city’s outskirts, already grappling with limited access to drinking water, are bracing for further disruptions as a 12-hour shutdown of a key water supply line has been announced for May 13. The shutdown is expected to affect water availability in several areas across East and North Nagpur, which are currently dependent on tankers to meet daily needs.
The disruption is part of an infrastructure upgrade aimed at strengthening the water supply system. The K-1300 mm main feeder pipeline will undergo maintenance work, during which a 700 mm valve on the Smart City Feeder line will be replaced at Dipti Signal, according to water department officials. This upgrade is intended to improve long-term supply efficiency, but it will also temporarily halt distribution from 19 water tanks across the city on Tuesday.
Localities to Face Water Outage:
- Bharatwadi
- Kalamna
- Subhan Nagar
- Minimata Nagar
- Bhandewadi
- Lakadganj 1 & 2
- Babulvan
- Pardi 1 & 2
- Shanti Nagar
- Wanjari Nagar
- Nandanvan & Nandanvan 1, 2
- Tajbagh
- Kharbi
- Sakkardara
- Wathoda
Civic authorities have urged residents in the affected zones to store sufficient water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown. Tanker services may be available in select areas, but supply could remain strained due to increased demand.
The city’s water management body has assured that the scheduled upgrade will contribute to more reliable and efficient water distribution in the future. However, for residents already facing scarcity, the shutdown poses yet another challenge in the peak of summer.
