The Wardhaman Nagar side of the five-armed Pardi flyover, especially near Vaishnodevi Chowk, has become a major traffic trouble spot for daily commuters. Encroachments, unregulated vehicle flow, and a damaged divider at the flyover ramp are creating a severe bottleneck, raising serious concerns over safety and the risk of accidents.
According to a media report, as vehicles descend from the Pardi flyover toward Vaishnodevi Chowk, a gap in the road divider allows them to cut across lanes recklessly, disrupting traffic flow and creating a dangerous convergence point.
At this junction, vehicles from Wardhaman Nagar, Bhandara Road, and the flyover meet simultaneously, increasing the risk of collisions. The situation is made worse by roadside encroachments that narrow the usable road space, further limiting visibility and maneuverability for drivers and two-wheeler riders.
Ramakant Sarda, a long-time resident whose house is located next to the intersection, voiced deep concern over the chaotic traffic conditions. “This criss-cross point is extremely dangerous. You have vehicles coming from everywhere, and if someone is trying to cross the road, especially when a vehicle is speeding down the flyover, the chances of collision are very high,” he said.
Ashish Karnewar, a tea stall owner who watches the daily traffic mess unfold, noted that the situation has deteriorated significantly over the past year.
“Earlier, it wasn’t this bad. But now, with the increase in traffic and no traffic personnel deployed here, it becomes a free-for-all situation. Accidents are waiting to happen,” said a concerned Ashish Karnewar, highlighting the growing risks at the junction.
Local student Anangha Deshpande, who commutes by cycle, pointed out that cyclists and pedestrians face the greatest danger. “Vehicles come at high speeds from all sides. It becomes nearly impossible to cross the road safely. If they’ve left a divider gap, then there should also be a zebra crossing or a traffic light, so we can cross without fearing we’ll be hit,” she said.
Residents fear that if authorities don’t step in soon, a serious accident is inevitable.
“The Pardi flyover, meant to ease congestion, could ironically become a site of recurring traffic tragedies if corrective steps are not urgently implemented,” Deshpande said.
Piyush Jambholkar, a regular commuter on this route, echoed the concerns. “During peak hours, especially in the morning and evening, traffic clogs up completely. The open divider makes it worse because vehicles cut across dangerously,” he said.
The lack of basic traffic management measures—such as a traffic signal, speed breakers, or even a traffic constable—at this busy junction has raised serious concerns about the city’s urban traffic planning. Frustrated commuters and local residents are now urging the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and traffic police to take swift action.
According to a media report, DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak, after being informed about the situation, assured that metal barricades would be placed immediately to close the divider gap. While this may require commuters to take alternate routes or turn earlier to reach their homes, the move is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve safety at the junction.
