A 21-year-old man was apprehended by Mankapur police on Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a police constable who intervened when the accused was found consuming alcohol in a public place.
The incident took place around 9:30 pm at Geetanjali Garden in Zingabai Takli. Police constable Shekhar Arsad, attached to Mankapur Police Station, was patrolling the area in a mobile van when he spotted Ankitt Komalgiri Goswami, a resident of Manavta Nagar, Gittikhadan, drinking alcohol with his associates in a public space.
When the constable questioned them, Goswami allegedly abused and pushed him, creating a disturbance in the area. As the police tried to detain him and place him in the patrol vehicle, Goswami’s male accomplice and two female relatives reportedly intervened, obstructed the legal procedure, and forcefully pulled him out of the vehicle. They also allegedly manhandled the constable during the scuffle.
Based on the complaint filed by constable Arsad, PSI Sanke registered an FIR against the accused under Sections 132, 121(1), 296, and 3(5) of the BNS, along with Section 85 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Ankitt Goswami was taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
