Nagpur: In a striking parallel to the Bollywood film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, where a man risks everything to help a mute girl cross into Pakistan, a woman from Nagpur has allegedly crossed the Line of Control (LOC)—but under drastically different and alarming circumstances.

On May 10, while tensions between India and Pakistan were escalating, Sunita Satish Gatlewar (43), a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar under Kapil Nagar Police Station limits, reportedly entered Pakistani territory. Her bold and unauthorized move during a period of heightened conflict has sparked serious concern among law enforcement.
No Confirmation Yet from Pakistani Authorities
Though sources in the border region suggest that Sunita may have been detained in Pakistan, there has been no official confirmation from the authorities across the border. Normally, such incidents are acknowledged formally, but the current strained relations between the two nations could be a factor behind the silence.
In Nagpur, Kapil Nagar police, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Niketan Kadam, have initiated an in-depth investigation. A police team is being prepared to travel to Kargil, where Sunita’s 12-year-old son, Inel, has been located and is currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
DCP Kadam is personally supervising the case and remains in contact with his subordinates posted in Kargil, along with CWC officials.
Family Unaware Until Police Intervened
According to Sunita’s 60-year-old mother, Nirmala Jamgade, the family was unaware of her disappearance until police visited their home. “She told me on May 4 that she was going out to buy clothes for her son and never returned. I didn’t file any complaint as I’ve been undergoing treatment at Government Medical Hospital,” the mother explained.
Before leaving, Sunita reportedly stocked up the house with essentials, hinting at a well-thought-out plan.
Prior Attempt to Cross the Border
This is not Sunita’s first border-crossing attempt. She had previously been intercepted by Amritsar police at Attari, where an offence was registered against her. This time, she allegedly succeeded in crossing the LOC after leaving her son behind at a hotel in Hundermaan, Kargil.
Ties to Pakistani Pastor Under Probe
Investigators have learned that Sunita was allegedly in contact with a Pakistani pastor for the past few years. Her urge to meet him may have driven her to take the risk. Reports from the region suggest some Pakistani locals saw her and alerted their authorities, possibly leading to her apprehension—though this remains unconfirmed due to the ongoing hostilities.
A Bajrangi Bhaijaan Tale in Real Life?
While Bajrangi Bhaijaan told the emotional tale of a man reuniting a young girl with her family across the border, this incident presents a far more complex and unsettling real-life version. With her son now under official care in Kargil and agencies working to trace her whereabouts, the case continues to unfold as one of the most intriguing and sensitive cross-border incidents in recent memory.
