Sitabuldi Police have registered a case of extortion against a 21-year-old man who allegedly manipulated a 19-year-old college student into a romantic relationship to extort money from her. The accused has been identified as Tejas Warkhede, a resident of Telangkhedi.
According to police, the victim—name withheld for privacy—resides in Hudkeshwar with her mother, who is employed in a private firm. The young woman is currently pursuing her college education and recently lost her father.
The two came into contact through Snapchat in January. Their online acquaintance quickly evolved into a romantic relationship. During their chats, the woman reportedly told Tejas about receiving a scholarship of ₹60,000.
In March, Tejas allegedly convinced her to meet at a hotel in the Dhantoli area under the pretext of a family emergency, claiming his sister had been in an accident and urgently required ₹3 lakh. Trusting him, she handed over ₹25,000.
Police said the accused continued to pressure her for more money, using emotional blackmail and threats. In total, the victim transferred ₹75,500 to him. At one point, Tejas allegedly threatened to die by suicide and warned her she would be held responsible and jailed if she didn’t comply with his demands.
Frightened and emotionally distressed, the woman initially remained silent. However, she eventually confided in her relatives and approached the Sitabuldi Police. Based on her complaint, a case has been registered against Tejas Warkhede under relevant sections for extortion and criminal intimidation. Further investigation is underway.
