Nagpur: A heated dispute has surfaced over the recently held elections for the post of President at Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Kamptee Road, with two rival groups staking claim to legitimacy. The controversy has led to confusion and growing unrest within the local Sikh community.
One group, led by Balbir Singh Renu, maintains that elections were properly held on April 16, 2025, in full compliance with the Gurudwara’s by-laws. Renu claims he was lawfully elected President for the 2025–28 term and that a Managing Committee has also been formed.
According to Renu, the entire process was conducted transparently in the presence of the Jaripatka Police Inspector and with prior intimation to the Charity Commissioner and Gurudwara Manager Sandeep Yadav. He further stated that all official notices were dispatched via registered post, with many delivered in person and acknowledged.
“All legal protocols were followed, and no objections were raised during the process. Objections are now being made post-facto,” Renu said, while presenting relevant documents, trustee approvals, and meeting records.
However, the opposing faction has rejected these claims. Sandeep Yadav, who currently holds the position of Gurudwara Manager by High Court appointment, alleged that Renu declared himself president unilaterally, bypassing proper procedures.
Yadav emphasized that a trustee meeting on May 11 decided to conduct the official election on May 28, indicating that the process is still underway and that Renu’s announcement is premature and unauthorized.
In response, Renu argued that the Manager has no authority under the Gurudwara’s by-laws to organize elections.
The ongoing dispute has caused uncertainty among devotees, with both groups standing firm. While Renu’s side insists their election was legal and transparent, the opposing camp holds that any process before May 28 lacks validity.
