Two brutal murders reported within a span of 24 hours on May 19 have raised serious concerns about the growing violence and deteriorating law and order situation in Nagpur.
Youth Killed Over Old Rivalry in Bhilgaon
In the first incident, a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in Bhilgaon in the early hours of Monday, allegedly due to an old enmity. The murder took place near Zilla Parishad School between 1 am and 1.45 am, under the jurisdiction of Yashodhara Nagar Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Farukh alias Sonu Chuti, a resident of Parvati Nagar. As per a complaint lodged by Mohammad Mustafa alias Golu World Isa Ansari (28), Farukh and a few others were sitting near a cowshed when a group led by Sunil Sarangpure from Azari Majri approached them. Sarangpure allegedly confronted Farukh over a past dispute and suddenly attacked him with a knife. Farukh sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.
Yashodhara Nagar Police have registered a case of murder and launched a manhunt for the accused. Investigations are underway to determine the exact motive.
Auto-Rickshaw Driver Stabbed to Death in Bhandewadi
In a separate incident later that night, a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed following a verbal altercation in the Bhandewadi area, under the jurisdiction of Pardi Police Station.
According to initial reports, the victim was involved in a heated argument which escalated rapidly. The assailant reportedly used a sharp weapon to stab the man, causing fatal injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Pardi Police have detained a few suspects in connection with the case and further investigations are ongoing.
City on Edge as Crime Surges
The back-to-back murders in different parts of Nagpur have sent shockwaves through the city. Both Yashodhara Nagar and Pardi police have intensified patrolling and deployed additional personnel to maintain order. Senior officials have assured the public that swift action will be taken against those responsible.
These incidents highlight an urgent need for enhanced surveillance, community policing, and stronger preventive measures to curb rising violence and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
