A warning by Japanese manga artist Ryo Tatsuki about a possible disaster in July 2025 has led to a significant drop in travel bookings to Japan. Known as Japan’s ‘New Baba Vanga,’ Tatsuki has gained attention for her past predictions, including the devastating 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
Who is Ryo Tatsuki?
Ryo Tatsuki first published The Future I Saw in 1999, a book that shares visions she claims to have experienced. Though initially overlooked, her reputation grew after some of her predictions appeared to come true — such as the 1995 Kobe earthquake, the death of singer Freddie Mercury, and the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, which caused over 18,000 deaths and the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
What is the July 2025 Prediction?
In an updated 2021 edition of her book, Tatsuki warned of a catastrophic event in July 2025. She described a possible undersea rupture between Japan and the Philippines, potentially triggering tsunamis three times larger than those in 2011. She also mentioned the sea “boiling,” which some interpret as volcanic or seismic activity. The predicted impact zone includes Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Northern Mariana Islands — areas known for geological risks.
Travel Bookings Drop by 50%
Travel agencies have reported a sharp decline in bookings to Japan, especially from East Asia. Hong Kong-based WWPKG said bookings fell 50% during the Easter holiday. CN Yuen, WWPKG’s managing director, told CNN, “People have chosen alternative destinations or delayed their travel plans due to safety concerns.”
Government Advisories and Public Reaction
In April 2025, the Chinese embassy in Tokyo issued an advisory urging nationals to stay alert for natural disasters, citing recent earthquakes and volcanic activity near Japan. They advised taking “extra precautions against natural disasters.” Meanwhile, Japan’s Meteorological Agency has not issued any warnings related to the prediction but confirmed its monitoring systems are fully operational and among the world’s most advanced.
Online Discussions and Preparedness
Tatsuki’s prophecy has ignited discussions worldwide, with the hashtag #July2025Prediction trending on social media. While some express worry, others dismiss the prediction as coincidence. Earthquake preparedness forums have seen increased activity, with many sharing safety tips and emergency plans.
