In a major enforcement operation, the Nagpur Traffic Police seized over 448 autos and e-rickshaws and took action against 493 drivers for violating traffic rules during a citywide drive held on May 20, 2025. The crackdown, aimed at improving road discipline, resulted in the collection of ₹2.83 lakh in fines across various traffic zones.
The highest number of actions were reported from the Cotton Market zone, where 63 vehicles were penalized and 58 were detained, followed by Sonegaon with 61 actions and 44 detentions, and Lakadganj with 56 violations and equal detentions. In the Ajni zone, 52 autos were booked and 50 were detained, while Sitabuldi witnessed the detention of all 40 vehicles penalized. Other areas including Sadar, MIDC, Sakkardara, Indora, and Kamptee also saw substantial enforcement during the operation.

To promote compliance, the Traffic Police summoned the detained drivers to Traffic Children’s Park, Dharampeth on May 21 between 11 AM and 1 PM for a counselling session. The drivers were educated on key traffic norms, including avoiding signal jumping, not parking in no-parking zones or near intersections, preventing overloading of passengers, and refraining from driving under the influence. They were also required to sign undertakings pledging adherence to these rules.
Officials stated that the drive will continue in the coming days, with intensified action planned against violators. The Traffic Department has urged all auto and e-rickshaw operators to prioritize safety by strictly following traffic regulations and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
