Launched in October 2024 under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card aims to provide free health insurance of ₹5 lakh annually to all Indian citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of income or previous scheme eligibility.
Introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this health scheme covers nearly 2,000 medical procedures, including treatment for pre-existing conditions, with no waiting period.
Who is Eligible?
Any Indian citizen aged 70 or older can apply. Individuals already enrolled under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY will receive this as a top-up, doubling their coverage. Those with private insurance or other government health schemes can also opt in, but they must choose between their current plan and this one.

How to Apply and Download the Card via Ayushman App:
- Download the ‘Ayushman App’ from the Google Play Store
- Choose ‘Login as beneficiary’ or ‘operator’
- Enter the captcha and mobile number, then select an authentication method
- Input OTP and allow location access
- Enter Aadhaar, state, and other beneficiary details
- If not found, complete eKYC with OTP consent
- Fill in the declaration form and required information
- Submit mobile number, OTP, PIN code, and category
- Add family members if needed
- After eKYC approval, download the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card
What Treatments Are Covered?
The card covers advanced treatments such as:
- Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis
- Total Knee and Hip Replacement
- Cardiac procedures like PTCA and pacemaker insertion
- Stroke and cancer treatment
- Orthopaedic surgeries
Where Can You Use the Card?
Cardholders can avail treatment at any of the 30,072 empanelled hospitals across India, including both government and private facilities.
