In a groundbreaking move, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to transform the Dadrapul Hansapuri Hindi Primary and High School in Timki (Prabhag No. 8) with a ₹15 crore sports infrastructure upgrade—the first of its kind for a civic-run school in the city.
The ambitious plan includes a standard swimming pool with modern safety and hygiene systems and a multi-sport indoor stadium for badminton, table tennis, fitness, and small tournaments. Facilities like changing rooms, spectator seating, and coaching areas are also part of the project, aiming to create a sports-integrated learning environment.
This upgrade marks a major shift in how public education can empower students. The school, known for serving underprivileged communities, has actively participated in initiatives like “Mission 100%” and the “School Transformation Initiative”. Now, it will offer holistic development opportunities through structured physical education.
Aligned with the Khelo India mission and NEP 2020, the project promotes sports as a core component of learning—not just an extracurricular. NMC also plans to introduce professional coaching and curriculum-linked training.
Beyond school hours, the new facilities will host inter-school events, community sports programs, and summer camps, benefiting the wider neighborhood.
With this step, NMC is not just building a pool and stadium—it’s investing in grassroots talent, inclusivity, and the future of civic education.
