Road construction on the busy Maharajbagh Road is crawling at a snail’s pace, and now, in a makeshift attempt to protect ongoing concrete work, plastic sheets are being used as a temporary cover. With the onset of the monsoon, sudden spells of heavy rain have become a concern. To prevent freshly laid concrete from being washed away, workers are keeping plastic sheets ready to cover the surface immediately after pouring.
The project involves concreting a stretch of about 300 meters, including work on a culvert over a drain, which has also seen delays. On Sunday, one of the entry gates to Maharajbagh Road from Amravati Road was closed to facilitate the work. However, being a weekend, a large number of families visited Maharajbagh, resulting in congestion.
The situation was further aggravated by the fact that both entry and exit traffic were being managed through a single gate. The narrow space and crowding raised the risk of accidents. To add to the chaos, a large number of private vehicles were parked along the road. Taxis, too, seemed to treat the area as an unofficial parking zone.
Despite the urgency due to the rainy season, the pace of the construction work remains slow, raising concerns among local residents and commuters. The civic body is yet to provide clear information on when the road work will be completed. In the meantime, the combination of ongoing construction, traffic mismanagement, and weather risks continues to inconvenience the public.
