Nagpur: In a major crackdown on mephedrone (MD) trafficking, police teams from Jaripatka and Yashodhara Nagar police stations apprehended four individuals in two separate operations on Wednesday and Thursday. The raids led to the seizure of over 20 grams of the banned substance, valued at more than ₹1.80 lakh.
In the first operation, Jaripatka Police detained two youths, identified as Hitesh Kamalkumar Bikhani, a resident of Sai Vasansah Square, and Akash Jayram Kevalramani from Chawla Square. Both individuals were reportedly addicted to MD and actively involved in its sale. Based on specific intelligence, police intercepted the suspects on Wednesday afternoon and recovered 5 grams of MD from their possession. During questioning, they confessed to using and selling the drug locally. The duo also disclosed that they sourced MD from an external supplier, who is currently being traced.
In a separate operation on Thursday evening, Yashodhara Nagar Police arrested two more suspects, Rajat Dilip Nannet (28) of Gautam Nagar and Rakesh Rajkumar Kohale (21) of Tiwari Nagar. The team intercepted the duo near Patil Nagar, Bhilgaon, around 6:50 PM, and seized 15.25 grams of MD powder worth ₹1.06 lakh, along with two mobile phones and a Hero Achiever motorcycle. The total recovery is estimated at ₹1.80 lakh. The accused admitted they intended to sell the drug for financial gain.
The Yashodhara Nagar operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP Niketan Kadam and ACP Satyavir Bandiwar, with the team led by PI Ramesh Khune. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered, and investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the broader drug supply network.
These arrests mark a significant step in the city police’s ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and curb the growing influence of synthetic drugs like MD in Nagpur’s neighborhoods.
