The CM Chashak Under-15 National Wrestling Championship for boys and girls will be held in Nagpur from June 20 to 22. The event is being jointly organised by the Maharashtra Wrestling Association and the Nagpur City Wrestling Association. The Wrestling Federation of India has granted Maharashtra the hosting rights, marking the first time this national-level tournament will take place in Nagpur.
The championship will be held at the Divisional Sports Complex in Mankapur, featuring matches across Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Women’s categories—each with 10 weight classes. In the Freestyle and Greco-Roman events, bouts will take place in weight categories ranging from 38 kg to 85 kg. For the women’s competition, the weight range will be from 33 kg to 66 kg. The tournament is expected to witness the participation of around 750 wrestlers representing 25 states from across the country.
Present at the press conference were Working President Sanjay Tirathkar, Vice President Dayaram Bhotmange, and Joint Secretaries Sandeep Khare, Rama Yangad, Ramesh Khade, Avinash Lokhande, Vinod Kanhere, Taseesh Wade, and Piyush Ambulkar, among others.
CM, DCM, Ministers Likely to Attend
Nagpur Wrestling Association President and Organising Committee Chief, MLC Sandeep Joshi, said, “The championship will be inaugurated in the presence of Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Kumar Singh. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sports Minister Dattatray Bharane, and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule are also expected to attend during the event.”
Chance for Selection in Indian Team
Winners in each weight category at the national championship will earn a spot to represent India at the upcoming Asian Championship, set to be held in Kyrgyzstan from July 5 to 13. This was announced by State Wrestling Association President and former MP Ramdas Tadas during a press conference on Thursday.
An open selection trial for Maharashtra’s team will be conducted in Pune on June 17 and 18. According to Association Vice President and former Hind Kesari Yogesh Dodke, the winners of each weight category in this trial will qualify to participate in the national championship.
