Nagpur: In a shocking turn of events, a 25-year-old MTech graduate and former employee at a software firm in MIHAN was arrested by Dhantoli police for committing multiple housebreakings after allegedly losing ₹15 lakh in gambling. The accused, Ashish Shrinivas Reddymalla, a resident of Rayatwari Colony, Dispensary Square, Bypass Road, Chandrapur, was tracked down after police examined over 120 CCTV footages.
Ashish is accused of committing five burglaries in Nagpur — three under Dhantoli Police Station and one each under Sonegaon and Ajni jurisdictions. Additionally, two more cases are registered against him in Chandrapur.
The investigation began following a complaint by Shital Naresh Chintalwar (24), who reported a burglary at her flat in Samyak Apartment, Vikas Nagar, on June 8. She and her family had left for Chandrapur at around 9 am, during which Ashish allegedly broke into flat No. 201 and stole ₹22,000 in cash. A neighbour, Shyam Sapkal, noticed the break-in and alerted the family.
Acting on the complaint, Dhantoli police registered a case under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unidentified accused. Under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Anamika Mirzapure, a team of officers including Subhash Vasade, Yogesh Chambhare, Amol Lonkar, Manoj Sonawane, Manik Dahifale, Uttam Sarkate, Bhuvaneshwar Mohad, Vrushabh Nishitkar, and Vikram Thakur launched a detailed probe.
Using CCTV footage and confidential sources, the team traced Ashish to Chandrapur and took him into custody. During interrogation, he admitted to seven burglaries — five in Nagpur and two in Chandrapur.
Police recovered gold ornaments weighing 32 grams (valued at ₹1.92 lakh), ₹15,000 in cash, a metal rod, along with 200 US dollars and 100 euros from his possession. Investigations are ongoing to determine if he is connected to any more unsolved thefts.
