A 40-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident while sleeping on the footpath near Gajanan Maharaj Temple in Subhash Nagar early Saturday morning, June 21. Rana Pratap Nagar Police have registered a case against an unidentified car driver for causing the fatal accident.
The victim has been identified as Ravi Manohar Chavan, a painter by profession and a resident of Plot No. 117, Gandhinagar, Ambazari. Chavan, who was unmarried, used to alternate his stay between his nephew’s home and his maternal aunt’s residence in Subhash Nagar.
According to police reports, the incident took place around 3:30 am on June 21, when Ravi Manohar Chavan was asleep on the footpath near the Gajanan Maharaj Temple in Subhash Nagar. A speeding black car, allegedly being driven recklessly and negligently, hit him and fled the scene without stopping.
Chavan was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital’s Trauma Centre by police, but despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead during treatment around 6:00 am.
Following a complaint filed by Chavan’s nephew, Rajesh Ramkumar Upadhyay (35), a resident of Gandhinagar, Rana Pratap Nagar Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 134, 177, and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act against the unidentified driver.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the vehicle involved, and further investigation is underway.
