She scored 92.60 per cent — marks many students aspire to get — in her Class 10 board exams. But just a year later, 17-year-old Sadhna Bhonsle was brutally beaten to death by her own father — all because she didn’t do well in a mock test.
Sadhna, a resident of Maharashtra’s Sangli district, was preparing for the NEET pre-medical entrance exam and had recently taken a practice test. Her poor performance angered her father, Dhondiram Bhonsle, a school teacher by profession.
In a fit of rage, he assaulted her with a stick, thrashing her repeatedly. The Class 12 student sustained serious head injuries. Though she was rushed to Ushakal Hospital in Sangli, she died before treatment could begin.
The father has been arrested and reportedly confessed to the assault that led to her death.
“The girl’s mother had filed a complaint at the police station on June 22, stating that her husband had beaten her up due to low marks, resulting in her death at the hospital. The accused father has been arrested and is in police custody till June 24. The case is under investigation,” said police.
