Nagpur’s chaotic Inner Ring Road is finally getting the overhaul it desperately needs. In a bold move, the State Public Works Department (PWD) has launched a ₹3 crore project to build two much-needed foot overbridges (FOBs) and upgrade the stretch into a multi-lane high-capacity corridor under State Highway 340 (S.H. 340).
The target? Faster travel and safer streets.
One FOB will rise near Pallotti School, Gorewada Road — a hotspot for schoolchildren and local residents who risk their lives daily crossing high-speed traffic. The second will come up in Martin Nagar near Jaripatka, a densely populated residential and commercial zone with constant foot traffic.
These aren’t just basic bridges. The steel structures will feature covered roofing and safe stairways, ensuring protection and easy access for children, senior citizens, and people with limited mobility — rain or shine.
Simultaneously, the Inner Ring Road will be expanded into a 4, 6, and 8-lane divided carriageway, tackling bottlenecks and slashing travel time across the city. This stretch is one of Nagpur’s busiest lifelines, connecting key zones — and this transformation is long overdue.
The entire project is under the watch of the World Bank Project Division of PWD Nagpur and is set to be completed in just 12 months, monsoons included.
Finally, pedestrians and motorists alike will breathe easier. Nagpur is stepping up — with steel, speed, and safety.
