IMD Issues Orange Alert for July 7–8
The Nagpur city experienced heavy rainfall early Monday morning, marking one of the season’s most intense monsoon spells. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for July 7 and 8, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of the district.
The IMD stated that a low-pressure system is likely to form over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 12 hours. This system is expected to impact large parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur, bringing widespread rainfall in the region over the next two days.

City Waterlogged, Trees Uprooted in Multiple Areas
The continuous downpour since early morning led to severe waterlogging in several localities across Nagpur, disrupting daily life. Office-goers struggled to navigate flooded roads during peak Monday hours, with many opting for work-from-home arrangements due to the adverse weather.
Several incidents of tree falls were reported, notably from Jattarodi and Civil Lines, though no injuries were reported. The Fire and Emergency Services Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) remained on high alert throughout the day, responding to distress calls and clearing blocked roads.
Public Advised to Stay Cautious
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel and stay indoors during the alert period. Commuters are advised to avoid low-lying and flood-prone zones, and to exercise caution while driving on waterlogged roads.
With the weather system still intensifying, IMD officials are closely monitoring developments and will issue further updates as necessary.
