In a major action against drug trafficking, the Tehsil Police arrested a 30-year-old man in possession of MD (Mephedrone) powder during a late-night patrol in the city. The seized narcotics and other items are valued at nearly ₹1.98 lakh.
The operation took place around 12:55 am on July 10, near Lal Imli Chowk, adjacent to Daga Hospital. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team intercepted a suspect arriving on a black Suzuki Burgman scooter without a number plate, reportedly carrying MD powder for sale on a public road.
The suspect was apprehended and identified as Junaid Sheikh Iqbal Sheikh (30), a resident of Baba Taj Layout, Kharbi, Wathoda, Nagpur. A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 9.32 grams of MD powder, packed in a zip-lock pouch. The police also seized a mobile phone and the unregistered two-wheeler, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to ₹1,98,200.
Investigations revealed that the accused was allegedly in possession of the narcotic substance for illegal sale, intending to profit from the transaction. Based on the evidence, an FIR was registered at Tehsil Police Station under Sections 8(c) and 21(b) of the NDPS Act, and the accused was placed under arrest.
The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officials — Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP Zone 3 Rahul Madane, and ACP (Kotwali Division) Anita More. The field team was led by Senior PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, along with PSIs Rasul Sheikh and Bismillah Khan, and support from HCs Sanjay Shahu, Sandeep Gawli and PCs Vaibhav Kulsange, Kunal Korche, and Sunil Shelukar.
Further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the narcotics and determine if the accused is linked to a larger drug network.
