What was meant to ease traffic has turned into a city-wide embarrassment. Amid growing civic backlash and social media mockery, the PWD has begun installing 150 meters of concrete dividers at the botched Kawrapeth Flyover junction — a patchwork fix for a major planning disaster.
Built to connect Shanti Nagar, Kawrapeth, and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, the flyover’s design was suddenly altered during execution by PWD Division 3. Instead of the approved Y-shaped junction, the city got a sharp T-shaped turn, now infamous for chaos, detours, and daily near-misses.
“We built as per the sanctioned alignment,” clarified Division 1 Executive Engineer Laxmikant Rahulkar. “Division 3’s design change caused the issue.”
Deputy Engineer Sachin Khedekar admitted to the misstep and said dividers — 50 meters on each arm and 50 meters in the center — are being installed based on traffic police instructions. The temporary measure is expected to wrap up by July 16.
But the damage is done. Locals have mockingly renamed the spot “Uth Ke Muh Me Jira Square”, a name now live on Google Maps — reflecting public frustration and ridicule.
“This isn’t a solution. It’s damage control,” said daily commuter Ravi Thakre. “The entire junction needs rethinking.”
While memes multiply online, thousands of commuters continue to suffer offline — navigating a junction that stands as a stark reminder of Nagpur’s growing list of urban planning failures.
