A fire broke out in the parking area of the under-construction Kukreja Anandam World City project in Nagpur’s Ganeshpeth area on Wednesday, engulfing construction materials including pipes, centering boards, machinery and electrical wiring. Thick plumes of smoke billowed across the locality, causing panic among nearby residents and commuters.
On receiving the alert, four fire tenders of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations. Fire personnel worked swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the construction site.
According to the fire department, a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire. In a timely response, firefighters safely removed 10 LPG cylinders kept at the site for workers’ cooking, averting a potential major explosion and a larger disaster.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. The exact extent of the damage is being assessed, while further investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
