Slum Soccer, Nagpur, is organizing a special football tournament for deaf players on July 19 and 20 at the Slum Soccer Academy ground in Bokhara. The competition will feature six-a-side teams, with several men’s teams from Maharashtra and neighboring states expected to participate. This information was shared by Slum Soccer CEO Dr. Abhijeet Barse.
The primary goal of this unique event is to discover football talent among deaf youth and to foster team spirit. Notably, this tournament will be organized and managed by deaf youth who have been trained by Slum Soccer and have recently completed the D-License Football Coaching Program held in Mumbai.
This tournament is part of Slum Soccer’s ongoing “Deaf Kids Goal” (DKG) initiative, which has been running successfully for the past six years. The DKG program has provided a safe and empowering platform for deaf children and youth to participate in sports. Through this initiative, many deaf youths have gained confidence and found support in integrating into mainstream society.
The event will also offer participating players an excellent opportunity to connect and interact with deaf footballers from other cities.
According to Dr. Barse, this tournament is not just about football — it is an opportunity to bridge the gap between society and the deaf community, while celebrating their talents and aspirations.
