Nagpur: Unfazed by recent controversies, hockey players from Ira International School have kept their focus firmly on the game, and their dedication is now bearing fruit. Three talented students — Shrawani Tulankar, Yashasvi Kubde, and Lajo Rahangdale — have secured spots in the Maharashtra team for the ongoing 15th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
In a moment of pride for Nagpur, Shrawani Tulankar, also the captain of the state team, will be leading the squad at the national level. All three players were selected after excelling in trials conducted at Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune.
The trio has been groomed under the watchful guidance of coach Shahid Bux, whose training and motivation have played a key role in shaping the players’ skills and performance.
Their journey also includes rigorous practice at the recently concluded month-long summer hockey coaching camp, jointly organised by the Nagpur District Unified Hockey Association (NDUHA), Vidarbha Women’s Hockey Association (VWHA), and Anjani Hockey Club. The sessions were held at the VWHAS Tiger’s Gap Ground in Sadar and saw enthusiastic participation from young players across the region.
A team of experienced coaches — Gaurav Raut, Bablu Neware, Umesh Yadav, Irshad Mirza, Millar Francis, and Rajkumar Tha — provided hands-on training to budding hockey talents.
School Principal Manish Sathe congratulated the selected students and extended best wishes for their upcoming matches.
At the camp’s closing ceremony, NDUHA President Vinod Trivedi graced the event as the chief guest, while former corporator Kishor Jichkar was present as the guest of honour.
