 DKM women, NBYS men reign supreme in basketball
Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) women and Nutan Bharat Yuvak Sangh (NBYS) men triumphed in District Senior Basketball Tournament that was organised by Nagpur District Basketball Association at Bajaj Nagar court, here on Friday.
In the women final, DKM overcame Saraswati Kanya Sangh (SKS) 59-54 by five points to win their seventh successive district championship crown.
After losing first quarter 17-21, DKM eves bounced back and went on to win next two quarters 15-11, 26-6. In the last quarter SKS improved their play and won it 16-4 but that was too late. Shreya Dandekar (33) and Mugdha Amraotkar (22) were the main architects of DKM victory. For SKS Ruruja Rotkar (17) and Antra Mehta (15) tried their best but in vain.
In the men’s final, NBYS playing in front of home spectators drubbed Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana 69-38 in a one-sided affair. The quarterwise score in favour of NBYS was 19-10, 20-8, 10-13, 20-7. Thanks to the combination of Yash Jiwtode (23) and Sharvil Bomalwar (14) who propelled hosts in the victory. For SNG, Parag Shirbhayye top scored with 11 points.
