The 70th Republic Day was celebrated in the city at different educational, public institutions and private organisations with patriotic fervour on Saturday.
 Guardian Minister of the district Chandrashekhar Bawankule unfurled the tricolour at the main function at Kasturchand Park. He also took the guard of honour. Police and other personnel took out an impressive march past which was followed by colourful cultural programmes presented by students of different schools.
Divisional Commissioner; Sanjeev Kumar, District Collector Ashwin Mudgal, Municipal Commissioner; Abhijit Bangar, Commissioner of Police; Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, officials of various government departments besides a large number of people were present on the occasion.
Later in the day a number of groups of youth were seen moving on their two wheelers amid shouting slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai with tricolour atop their vehicles.
It was also an occasion where a large number of people visited prominent places of the city along with their family and friends. Futala Lake was one such place witnessing huge crowd with patriotic feeling at its peak.
Republic Day was also celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU0, in the city. Regional Director Dr P Sivaswaroop hoisted the national flag. The programme was attended by a large number of students, besides IGNOU staff.
