Maha Metro officials are making their best efforts to ensure that the metro begins its service in the city by February 28. The inaugural service of metro will cover a distance of 19 kms. The routes that are chalked out for the Nagpur Metro are from Khapri to Sitabuldi Square, along with Lokmanya Nagar and Subhash Nagar. Total eight stations will be operational for all the trains on both the routes.
Interacting with the media, Managing Director of Maha Metro, Dr Brijesh Dixit, said, “We will start operations at Khapri Station, New Airport Station, South Airport Station, Airport Station, Jaiprakash Nagar Station and Sitabuldi Station on reach-I at Wardha roadâ€. He added that all the formalities which include certification from Research Design Standard Organisation (RDSO) and Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will be completed by the end of this month.
Dr Dixit launched a designs of Nari Shakti Coach, (a special coach for women) and of e- cycle and scooters at South Airport Station for the up-gradation of the airport.
According to sources, Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, wish to get the project inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in March’19.
