Spicejet ordered to pay Rs 55k to consumer

District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum has directed airline company SpiceJet to pay Rs 55,000 as compensation to a consumer, who missed a connecting flight due to delay in a SpiceJet flight.

The forum has given 30 days time to the domestic airline to comply with its order. The forum has directed the firm to pay Rs 50000 as compensation towards physical and mental harassment caused due to the delay in flight and another Rs 5000 for legal expenses.

The order was pronounced by Forum Chairman Shekhar Mule and members Avinash Prabhune, and Dipti Bobde. The complainants included Rasik and Minoti Nashine, residents of Gandhinagar. According to the complaint, they had planned to tour North East from April 1-10 in 2016.
The journey was scheduled from Bagdogra to Kolkata and Kolkata to Nagpur and accordingly the Nashines booked Spicejet tickets. They were told that the company planes were flying on time. When they reached Bagdogra airport, they were told that their flight was running behind schedule.

They reached Kolkata 5.40 hours late as a result missed their Kolkata-Nagpur flight. They also had to spend additional amount on accommodation and food in Kolkata. Later, they had booked fresh tickets to fly to Nagpur.

The consumers wrote to Spicejet seeking compensation but there was no reply following which, the Nashines filed a complaint before the forum. Adv Surendra Kharbade appeared for the complainants.
