All-India U-16 tennis tourney begins
Seeded players had a smooth sailing on the first day of the MSLTA Yonex-Sunrise All India Ranking Super Series Under-16 Tennis Tournament, organised by the Nagpur District Hardcourt Tennis Association, at the MSLTA Tennis Academy courts in Bajiprabhu Nagar, Ram Nagar, here on Monday.
In the U-16 boys’ singles first round, top seed Chirag Duhan of Delhi defeated Nagpur’s local boy Rahul Ravi 6-0, 6-2 to advance. Second seed Heerak Vora of Baroda also recorded an easy 6-2, 6-0 wins over Mumbai’s Prabhjot Chandhok. Other seeded players also advanced without much trouble.
The participating players have come from various states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, AP, Telangana, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, MP, Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The tournament was inaugurated by MSLTA CEO, Manoj Vaidya and Senior Pune coach, Hemant Bendrey. NDHTA Vice-President Ashok Bhiwapurkar, Secretary Sudhir Bhiwapurkar, Joint Secretary Vikram Naidu, Treasurer Vijay Naidu, Santosh Chatterjee and tournament Supervisor Avanee Gosavi were present on the occasion.
