Master Dhron Suresh of Mumbai had to battle it out in the semifinals with top seed Om Verma of Nagpur to beat him 6-5(4). Later he rally hard to beat city lad Aaron Bapuna (4-2, 5-3) to clinch the boy’s singles title. Earlier Aaron had a tough semifinal clash with Devraj Mandade of Pusad, which went into tiebreak 6-5(2).
In the girls section, Namrata Pawar beat Vasuda Madhusudan (6-4) in the semifinal while Mehak Kapoor downed Meha Patil (retired), setting up a title clash. Mehak won the final easily beating Namrata 4-1, 4-0 to take the winners’ cup.
Chairman Bapuna Group, Aspi Bapuna encouraged the players and motivated them to play better during the prize distribution function. Coach Ramarao of Practennis was prominently present along with officials of NDHTA Sudhir Bhiwapurkar, Vikram Naidu, Ashok Bhiwapurkar and tournament supervisor Supriya Chatterjee.
