A National Conference on Social and Emotional Learning has been organised by Member of Parliament and a Padma Shri Awardee Dr. Vikas Mahatame on March 2 from 10 am to 5 pm at Vasantrao Naik Smriti Sabhagruha, VANMATI, VIP Road, Dharampeth. Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari will be the chief guest of the event.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL), an initiative undertaken by Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Vikas Mahatme, had brought to the city of Nagpur a very successful four month-long camp for students and teachers. In the camp 7 workshops were taken to train more than350 school students, over 150 school teachers and more than 200 college students.
Research shows that SEL is associated with a positive impact on important mental health variables that increase children’s attachment to school, enhance their motivation to learn, and reduce risky behaviors. Few of the knowledge partners are UNESCO-MGIEP, UNICEF, Save the Children, TISS Mumbai and sponsors includes GAIL, IGL, Petronet LNG Ltd, Key2Practice, MOIL, Dalmia Bharat Ltd, Raisoni University.
This will be a major step towards equipping our youth with tools to deal with mental emotional health issues and creating an awareness around the importance of Social and Emotional Learning. Lastly, this initiate would be used to advocate for inclusion of Social and Emotional Learning, SEL, in the school curriculum itself to move forward towards our Prime Minister vision of a happier India.
